The 175 Watt mercury-vapor Lamp was one of the most popular yard lamps utilized throughout five decades of the late 20th Century. Many products out of this this Wattage included "Security Lighting" and "Barn Yard" outdoor installation kits that were electrified by a condenser ballast. The Condenser not only had the primary and secondary coil, but also a capacitor coil compressed into it to save on space. On the other hand, my ballast kit came with a one-in-all built in Electronic Ballast with certain features; the like of which include grounded cable connectors and a separate porcelain mogul base socket with an adaptor to medium base for the reduced jacket arc tube protected bulb! When activated, there is virtually no sound to be heard; whereas magnetic transformers always produce that 60 Hertz "hum" characteristic of line voltage appliances. This one, however, stays quiet and much cooler to the touch, with an overall finer and "flicker-free" light output! Moreover, this particular lamp (175 W reduced jacket protected arc tube bulb) sustains a longevity life-span of about 20,000 hours; really reliable when used for hydroponic garden growth applications. My usage of it- inter alia- is more for Art Deco, and for indoor ambient simulated sunlight! This clip is dedicated to the 175W Yard Lamp!
